On a Budget Makeup for Over 40 with Walmart

It’s not too often that I post about makeup, but when Walmart asked if I could post about e.l.f. Cosmetics, a quality and affordable brand, I got excited!

If you know me, you know that I LOVE makeup almost as much as fashion!

So I tried out a bunch of e.l.f. Cosmetics products to see what would work with my over 40 skin.

(Yes, I just turned 44.  Woo hoo!)

Makeup on a Budget

You can easily and quickly get this look and all on a budget!

As I’ve talked about, you know I love some bonkers expensive bougie makeup.

But I am so impressed with e.l.f. Cosmetics and think my finished makeup look was incredible.

Everything I used can be found on Walmart.

Face Base

I started with this e.l.f. SKIN Suntouchable Whoa Glow SPF 30, which is very similar to a pricey product I have in my collection.

And this glowy suncreen performs just as well!

It gives a beautiful glow under my foundation and adds SPF 30 sun protection.

I chose the shade “sunbeam.”

For foundation, I chose the e.l.f. Soft Glam Satin Foundation and wow!

This is my new favorite!

I love the satin finish for my mature and dry skin.  I had a “lit from within” glow.  Oh yes!

I applied the foundation with the e.l.f. Cosmetics Ultimate Blending Brush, which I also highly recommend.

Under Eyes

I then used some e.l.f. Putty Color-Correcting Eye Brightener under my eyes.

It’s shockingly similar to another color corrector I use and spent a lot more money on, so I think you’ll love it if you struggle with under eye circles and dry skin.

It’s best applied with your finger tips because your body heat will help the product melt right into your skin.

It is emollient with a bright and glowy finish.

You can also apply this color corrector under your foundation if you prefer.  You can also top with concealer, depending on your needs.

Complexion

Next I added some color to my “base,” first with a liquid blush.

I recently purchased some bougie liquid blush and found the e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blush, to be just as good, if not better.

It is highly pigmented, so you only need a few dabs and then it blends like a dream.

I chose the shade “Dusty Rosé” for my light skin tone, but there are many shades to choose from.

I applied the blush with the e.l.f. Liquid Blush Brush, which I also highly recommend.

Next, I used the e.l.f. Cosmetics Ultimate Blending Brush to apply some bronzer to warm up my skin.

I went with the e.l.f. Primer-Infused Matte Bronzer in the shade “Tan O’Clock.”

The bronzer has a lot of kick-up, but blends out very nicely.

Brows & Eyes

I filled in my brows with the e.l.f. Instant Lift Brow Pencil in “Neutral Brown.”

This pencil isn’t my favorite, but for three bucks, it’s pretty darn good.

At this point, you could simply finish with this e.l.f. Lash XTNDR Tubing  Mascara.

It’s really good mascara!

Or even add some eyeliner too.

Eyeshadow

But, if you want to go all out like I did, start with this eyeshadow primer.

It is just as good as the bougie ones in my collection and costs a fraction of the price.

It will make your eyeshadow last much longer.

After I applied the primer with my fingers, I used this beautiful eyeshadow palette.

I picked up a few of these eye brushes and wow, I was impressed!

This palette is great for everyday matte eye looks, a little shimmer on the lid, or a full on “glam” eye look for night time.

Lips & Setting Spray

For lips, I chose the e.l.f. Pout Clout Lip Plumping Pen in “Pinky Out.”

It’s a highly pigmented gloss that has a slight plumping effect.

It doesn’t last too long on the lips, as most glosses don’t, but I liked the way it felt and the tingle.

Lastly, I was very excited about this setting spray because it has SPF 45!

What a brilliant idea!  And great way to reapply sunscreen throughout the day without ruining your makeup.

Love it!

  1. I really liked your makeup video. Applied like an everyday working female. Not too many products to look good. I have used a few elf products, and they all seem good for their price.

  2. Great job! I appreciate your tutorial. I love elf products. That said, I have tried every elf mascara and haven’t found one that gives me the same wear as tarte maneater.

  3. Thank you so much for this post and your tutorial! I can’t wait to try all these products. I love your look. Xoxo
