Switching up formats a little in this 2019 plus size Thanksgiving outfits post! If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know that I publish multiple outfit suggestions for Thanksgiving Day each year.
And I also always include several options for those of you in warm(er) climates, called the “Southern Editions.” Update: See Part 2 here.
But today I am combining the two ideas and showing variations of the same look: Warmest, Warmer, Warm, and the Southern Edition.
So essentially these are the same outfit idea with minor details changed to accommodate whatever the weather and temperature might be in your region! Take a look…
By the way, if you like this idea and format, please let me know in the comments below, and I will try to create more Thanksgiving Day looks this way!
Also, from my random polling, it seems like overwhelmingly you will keep things pretty casual for Turkey Day, but I would love to hear if you want a bit more sparkle in these outfit suggestions!
One Look – Four Ways
While I show the same essential idea four ways, there are actually more combinations that I didn’t show. For example, jeans + mules. Point being, this is a pretty easy “formula” to follow.
Start with a plaid blanket scarf and coordinating sweater or t-shirt, sleeve length depending on the weather and/or what you have in your closet. Choose a denim skirt or jeans for the bottoms. Pick a boot, bootie, or mule for footwear. Then add accessories.
If you’re not sure how to tie/wear a blanket scarf, please check out this video.
Also, someone recently commented on Facebook that she didn’t want to appear larger or bulkier and shied away from these types of scarves or just wears them as a shawl. While I will say that these are bulky scarves and that is part of “the look,” but I don’t think they will make you appear larger.
I really recommend trying them in different configurations!
Riding Boots
I just love these wide calf riding boots, but they will only fit up to 17″ calf. If you’re unsure about your calf size or how to measure, go to this post.
My calves are larger than most “standard” wide calf boots. So I love Duo Boots for their high quality, genuine leather, “custom” sizing, and availability of calf widths up to 20″ circumference! They have some similar boots here.
I know they are pricey, but I think they are great investment pieces. Plus, I take mine to a cobbler and have them fixed as needed. They last forever!
I’m not an affiliate, I just really believe in their boots! You can read more of my thoughts on them here. I also listed some other options below in the “Shop the Look” section, including extended wide calf options and some inexpensive options.
And if you don’t have [or want] riding boots, try some ankle booties like these. Or opt for the adorable mules featured in the some of the outfit versions.

Warmer
The “Warmer” plus size outfit idea is the same as the “Warmest,” but I swapped out the jeans for a denim skirt. In case you want to know, I like to wear this shaper under skirts to help prevent “chub rub,” but also give me some control.

And lastly, the “Southern Edition,” which is for those of you in warm climates, but want to dress like it’s fall! So clearly this outfit is full of fall colors, but should be comfortable in warm weather. Just swap the sweater for a t-shirt. And you may have to lose the wool hat.

I’m not a plus size but love the detail and attention you give to creating complete outfits. You educate and provide many alternatives. Very comprehensive. Thank you for your inspiring creations.
Thank you, Marcia!
Once again I love the bright colors! The more neutral outfits were fantastic as well. I really appreciated that you listed wool and cashmere options since many people have a preference one way or the other!
Thank you! 🙂
Love the outfits and the new format!
Thanks, Kim!!!
I really love the four ideas for Thanksgiving in one email. I also wanted to say I really appreciate all of your hard work putting these outfits together and all the links to go buy them. I wish more bloggers did this versus now many are using ways to have you go to multiple sites and by the time you get there the item is sold out or no longer available.
Thank you, Zoe! 🙂
Thanks for sharing these thanksgivings outfits ideas. Gives me the options of aore polished casual to the one with the nice dark emerald green dress! That would be perfect for someone meeting her boyfriend’s family first time at Thanksgiving.
