Wide Width Flats

So whether you’re trying to add a pop of color to an outfit or just wear a neutral flat, this post has you covered!

Once I started to need a wide width in most brands, I nearly became depressed due to the lack of selection of wide width shoes.

Seriously, it’s ugly out there!  Literally.

And if you want to find something other than a basic black flat, understand that you’re on an epic journey of deep internet dives.

And chances are you’ll mostly find hideous orthopedic sneakers

(I probably shouldn’t talk too much sh!t because someday I’ll need these terrible things.  Lol.)

So to help you out this spring, I rounded up a beautiful collection of colorful wide width flats.  What do you think?

  1. I have several of these thanks to my favorite influencer and can’t thank you enough for taking the deep dive for us! I now get tons of compliments on my shoes! (Especially the leopard Mary Jane’s)

  2. I’m looking for leather uppers with a synthetic sole. Any tips? I’ve gotten some things from Easy Spirit. My other question is how can I be sure that “wide width” is actually wide enough for my feet? Some websites offer size charts, but not all of them do.

    1. Hi Robyn,
To answer your first question… And I am assuming you are seeking flats with a synthetic sole (not insole(?)). Most mid-level to high-end wide width flats should fit the bill. If, however, you’re looking for a more “rugged” or comfortable sole, try something like these, these, these, or these.

As for your second question: Shoe widths are standardized, with the most common/popular US women’s shoe widths being: A (narrow), B (medium/standard), C (wide), and D (extra wide). Do note that often “C” is the same as “W,” which is “wide,” and “D” is the same as “WW,” which is “extra wide.” My best advice, if you are unsure of your foot width, is to go to a shoe store or decent department store and get your feet (both of them), measured by a sales clerk/professional. Once you know your true width, you should be able to shop much easier, especially online.

“Unisex” shoes, which are typically sneakers, like the oh-so-popular Adidas Sambas are typically “C” width and should fit wide width feet. Also, Birkenstocks and some European shoes are different. Birkenstocks come in two widths: Narrow, which is like an A/B width (this is the “default” women’s width), and Medium/Wide, which is more like a C/D/W. I wear the latter.

All of that said, despite sizes being standardized, there will likely be some inconsistency, so do read reviews to ensure shoes/width are true to size.

      I hope that helps! 🙂
