I came up with these plus size black jeans outfits while I was trying to think of what to wear with Birkenstock Gizah sandals.  If you haven’t heard, Birkenstock sandals are back in style.  This fills my heart with joy because I have the torn-up ankles of a retired figure skater after reenacting the “hobbling” scene from Misery, not to mention a really messed up lumbar spine.  So basically we all get to wear orthopedic shoes and look chic at the same time!  Hooray!   Comfort for me!  Comfort for you!  Comfort for us all!

Specifically, I have been thinking about getting a pair with the new soft footbed.  I had the orginal Birks with the classic footbed wayyyyy back in the ’90s and they were hard, in my opinion, so I was psyched when I heard about the softer footbed.  But I also really love the looks of the Gizeh Exquisite, which has the leather-wrapped footbed.  The Monterey also has this limited edition leather-wrapped footbed, which is a close second choice.  So many options!

I read about the differences in the footbeds here.  Basically, the original footbed is harder and takes longer to “break in,” but conforms to your foot in about 2 weeks.  The soft footbed, has a layer of cushioning and although comfortable right out of the box, doesn’t conform as well to your foot and doesn’t have as good of arch support.  So, it’s a trade off about what is more important to you.  I, personally, need the cushioning!  By the way, Birkenstock come in two widths.  Narrow, which fits a narrow (A – B width) foot, and standard, which some retailers, like Nordstrom, call “wide,” which are recommended for regular (C) to wide (D) width feet.

Plus Size Black Jeans Outfits

In both plus size black jeans outfits, I feature these sunglasses, which I have in gold.  They don’t look like the image, in real life, they look like nearly opaque metallic gold lenses.  They are amazing!  They’re oversized and very trendy.  You won’t like them if you are looking for a classic aviator.  The only thing I don’t like about them is my fingerprints show up on them frequently so I have to wipe them with the soft cloth they come with all time time.

Although I featured these hot caged sandals in this second look, a comfy pair of Birkenstocks would also work.  I love that this outfit is all black except for the gold snaps on the blouse, gold accessories, and a leopard clutch.  So chic!
