A plus size black puffer vest outfit for fall and winter.

As you well know by now I am a big fan of vests.  Remember my Ireland story?

Vests are a 3-season staple.  Plus, they’re lightweight, easy to pack, and will come in handy when the weather has a chill.

Before getting into outfit details, I want to share some thoughts about mixing prints and stripes.

Mixing Prints

As you can see, this look features a plaid scarf and a black and white striped t-shirt. 

You know I love mixing prints!

In fact, lately, I have been really into fun colors and prints for fall!

Life is Short, Wear Stripes

If you’re a regular reader, you know I love stripes!  As I’ve said, I am a stripe-aholic.  Sorry, not sorry. 

But, if you’re unsure about stripes, please read this post “Are horizontal stripes REALLY making you look fat?,” written by Melissa at Suger Coat It. 

She explains, “No, horizontal stripes won’t make you look fat. Only being fat makes you look fat.  And you know what, that’s okay.”

I think Melissa does a fantastic job of breaking down this outdated “rule” regarding plus sizes and stripes. 

Outfit Details

Now for the plus size black puffer vest outfit details.

Much like you’ve seen many times on this blog, I opted for a striped tee under a vest topped with a plaid scarf over jeans.

And boom!  It’s a bit formulaic but it wins every. damn. time.

I actually purchased this Free People pink and orange plaid scarf. 

It’s so pretty!

Booties

Then I added in that trending 90s vibe with some lug-soled Chelsea booties.

Comically, these booties are from Steve Madden, a brand of shoes I almost exclusively wore in the 90s.

They really take me back to my days of Nirvana, clove cigarettes, plaid flannel, and Boone’s Farm.

Oh, the nostalgia!

These booties have a 2 1/2″ heel with a 1″ platform.  They should be pretty comfortable.

Accessories

As always, I had to make the look a little bougie with some designer pieces like the iconic YSL Lou crossbody bag.

I had that bad boy in my cart twice today.  He will be mine soon!

Lipstick

Finish off your look with a fuchsia lip, like “Pink Safari” from YSL. 

As I’ve said, the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-in-Stick Lipsticks (or here) are my favorite lipsticks. 

I readily admit they are bougie AF and totally break the budget.  But they are amazing!

They’re 65% oil and feel amazing on the lips!  Not to mention they smell fantastic. 

Plus, the packaging is so gorgeous that I actually bought a lipstick holder, like this one,  to display them.

And I just can’t say enough great things about them!

The closest lippies I have found at more reasonable prices are L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Shine Lipstick and Sephora’s Rouge Lacquer Lipsticks. 

While both are similar, they aren’t even close to the decadence of the YSL ones.

Pro tip: Layer a lip stain like Benetint (or here) under the YSL for longer-lasting color.
