Plus size business casual outfits for my “plus size on a budget series!”
Oh, make sure you check out Part 2!
Like I’ve said, looking cute at the office doesn’t have to break the bank!
My “Disclaimer”
I want to prevent some anticipated feedback. So please keep these things in mind:
- “Budget” is relative. Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses, while other people allocate $300 for their annual clothing budget.
- You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less. These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across. And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed. Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously, if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
- Recycle & reuse. As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use the pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks. Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pieces.
Plus Size Navy Blazer
You might recognize this plus size navy double-breasted blazer from a recent post.
By the way, this blazer has been featured here on the blog in other colors here, here, here, and here.
And see another plus size double-breasted navy blazer outfit here.
Outfit Details
In this first look, the blazer is paired with a yellow top and navy pants*.
This outfit also features the same accessories and mules from that “casual Friday” look.
Oversized sunglasses, which are similar to my favorites are a preppy gal’s favorite in a classic tortoise.
A beautiful tote with simple hardware and flat mules are both in a rich cognac brown to round out the look.
And for jewelry, gold classics: oval thick hoop earrings and a thick link bracelet.
Pavoi Jewelry
The hoop earrings featured in this look are made by PAVOI, which I’ve mentioned many times before.
You can find PAVOI on Amazon, and must say the quality is really great for the prices!
I actually own a bunch of PAVOI pieces now. I started with a couple of these thick gold hoops in the two larger sizes. I was quite impressed.
Subsequently, I bought the same CZ stud earrings featured in this post in gold. I also picked up two gold cubic zirconia tennis bracelets, the smaller 2mm style and the 4mm style.
Actually, I have so many pieces now, I have lost track! But, so far so good!
Jewelry Care
These are inexpensive plated pieces so you might need to “baby” them for longevity.
Avoid the obvious: showers, pools, spraying your wrist with perfume while wearing them.
Store them in air-tight plastic bags, if possible. This will keep the plating from damage and tarnishing.
FYI, you can check out some more of my picks in my Amazon store.
Perfume & Lipstick
I have had this perfume brand, Dossier, on my “to try” list for quite some time.
I actually just ordered a bunch of their scents. I’ll report back soon!
For this look, I chose is their “Gourmand Orange Blossom,” which is inspired by Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle Eau De Parfum.
Oh la la! An amazing luxury scent at a fraction of the price!
For lips, I opted for a deep red with “Rouge St. Germain.” This shade will work best on all cool or neutral skin tones including deep shade.
If you have a warm undertone, go with “Volcanic.”
Another option for cool tones with a blue base, but a lighter red is “Maison Marais.”

Below you can see the same look without the navy blazer. A great choice for warmer months!
Editing Alexa here! As I am working on this post I realize that the trousers* in the images show the backside.
To be clear, the front of the navy pants* don’t have flat horizontal pockets.
I am just too tired to go update all of the images. My apologies!
Outfit Details
This next look is exactly the same except I swapped the yellow top for a beautiful printed ruffle top.
I then added a coin necklace to accentuate the neckline.
The lipstick in the aforementioned “Maison Marais,” a lovely cool-tone red.

This next idea shows the same outfit with a red cardigan. Just giving you some more options.

Love the ruffle top! The sides are sort of tailored to fit while covering the tummy area which is my problem area. Of course, it’s on preorder. It looks great with the slacks, but I’d probably wear it with a pair of jeans. Cute outfits!
Hi Alexa! I bought this blazer and it’s looks beautiful! The fabric is finely woven like a gabardine but with the comfort and stretch of ponte knit. The body is lined but the sleeves are not. The fit is true to size. The only negative is the sleeves are a little long but at this price I don’t mind hemming. Thanks for the great recommendation!
Hi Alexa,
I’m a newbie to your blog. WOW – it’s great!
I’m also a “new apple”, thanks to chemo. I have a few questions:
1) Is there a rule regarding jacket/cardigan length for us folks under 5’4″?
2) I believe you mentioned your mom is a small-busted apple – what is the best T-shirt/top style for her? The low “V” doesn’t work for me. Thoughts?
Thanks so much for passing along your extensive knowledge.
I love the ruffled blouse with the red cardigan. I love your selections and they help me figure out what to wear to work. Business casual outfits are my favorite styles that you post. Thank you so much!
Thank you too! Work outfits can be tough!
