A plus size work outfit for the fall! This is another look from my “on a budget” series.
Oh and be sure to go here to see Part 2.
Before getting into the details, I want to prevent some anticipated feedback. So please keep these things in mind:
My “Disclaimer”
- “Budget” is relative. Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses, while other people allocate $300 for their annual clothing budget.
- You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less. These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across. And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed. Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
- Recycle & reuse. As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks. Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pieces.
Plus Size Work Basics
It is possible to look professional and chic on a budget. Years ago, I was looking for a job and none of my old work clothes fit. Worse, I had very little money to buy anything. So when I got a job interview I scrambled to put a look together. Luckily there are some great places like Target, H&M, and JCPenney where you can find great pieces without spending a lot.
Outfit Details
Take any simple black and white work ensemble to the next level with some inexpensive costume jewelry. I found this amazing necklace at Target, along with these simple earrings and bangle bracelets. Target has really stepped up their jewelry game!
And of course, for the pièce de résistance, these leopard pumps from Target that come in wide width and a similar flat style. Another great place to find inexpensive yet amazing wide with shoes is ASOS.
I added this expensive-looking tote from H&M. I usually recommend investing just a little more for a genuine leather bag since a work tote is something you’ll use nearly daily. Amazon is a great place to find a no-name leather tote. But, sometimes it’s just not in the budget.
Also, Amazon is a great option for sunnies that resemble designer pieces, like these Celine-inspired sunglasses I have and love!

Thanks for this! I love that silk shirt and I live in knit pencil skirts M-F.
You’re welcome! Pencil skirts are essentials, imo. 🙂
Awesome! I also like your motto of shop your closet first!
Absolutely! So many ways to change things up with just some minor changes and/or different accessories! Tomorrow I’ll be showing another way to wear most of these pieces!
Dumb question: should the blouse be tucked in?
I recommend tucking it in. I like to wear pencil skirts high-waisted. Ultimately, you want to think about your proportions. You might need to add a layer to make things work un-tucked.
That lipstick is no joke. It’s even longer lasting then the Stila version like it. I have it in 3 colors and am obsessed.
Right?! It is great, especially for the price!
New lip color alert!!!! Love it!
