One plus size fall pant suit styled five ways! I started to work on a highly-requested capsule work wardrobe when I came across this beautiful merlot blazer and ankle pants. And I go so carried away with ideas on how to style it, that I decided to dedicate a post to the looks I came up with.
And while I stopped at five, I could easily come up with more. Including how to dress it up for a night out on the town or a special occasion. Please let me know in the comments below if you would like some sexy date night or even casual looks (think blazer + jeans) with these pieces.

All About Textures
This first look is monochromatic with a rich variety of textures. By the way, you can go here to read more about monochromatic outfits and color theory. Adding a variety of textures or finishes is a great way to add interest to an ensemble without print or use of multiple colors.
In this particular outfit, I chose to add a satin top with a ruffle detail. The satin has a subtle sheen which will create contrast when layered under the more matte suit in the same hue. And the ruffle, of course, adds even more interest and draws the eye up, making it very flattering.
Continuing this theme, I chose a shiny patent leather pump in a rich, slightly darker, “pinot noir” color. And for the handbag, again, I looked for texture. This time I chose a crocodile embossed leather bucket bag.
As you can see, when all of these pieces come together, playing their roles of adding depth and texture, the outcome is a very striking outfit. And while I absolutely love this look, if monochromatic isn’t for you, you could always chose the same top in ivory, black, or even fuchsia.

A Coordinating Print
The second look features a floral top that coordinates with the suit. You will probably have to wear a camisole under the top to be work-appropriate.
Ultimately, this is an easy “formula.” Choose a top with the same or similar hue as the suit. Choose the same hue for shoes and bag, preferably with some textures as I mentioned with look one. But, if you don’t have a coordinating bag and shoe, opt for a neutral like black or nude.

Black and White for the Win
When in doubt, add a black and white print, like a dot, stripe, or geometric design. Actually, any neutral + white print will work. For example, a navy and white stripe with a solid color pant, like this look.
This is a fool-proof “formula” when styling non-neutral solid pants, skirts, and blazers. And you can see this formula in action here and here.

Accessorize It
The fourth look is also a great formula. Add a white or off-which basic staple top, like this ivory shell. Then add a coordinating scarf or necklace for interest. In this case, I chose to go with a silk scarf in a print that has the same hue as the suit.
I also included more scarf ideas below. Some with coordinating prints and others that are simply neutral prints, like leopard. To read more about mixing prints, go here.

Be Extra
This final look is really just a variation of the second formula. Add a coordinating print, like this red dot blouse. To make things a little more interesting and to be just a bit extra, I swapped the merlot embossed bag for a bright red embossed bag. It just makes the outfit all the more interesting.
