Plus Size Fall Work Capsule 2024 – Part 1

As Always, a Disclaimer

Let me preface this with what I regularly say when creating a capsule:  I am NOT a minimalist.   

If you’re looking for a minimalist capsule, I’m not your girl. 

I am an unapologetic clothes horse.  Every closet in my house, plus a spare bedroom, plus half of my dining room, is full of clothes!  (I need an intervention.)

So this is a collection of ‘mix and match’ outfit ideas for fall and winter work wear.

Plus Size Fall Work Capsule 2024 – Part 1

Plus Size Black Flare Pants

Let’s start out with some basic neutrals for fall.

Everyone should have some ponte knit black pants in their wardrobe.

If you don’t, consider these from Spanx.

They are a high rise pull-on flare pant and available in three inseams: Petite 30” (recommended for 5’4” and under), Regular 32.5″, Tall 34.5″ (recommended for 5’9” and above).

They’re high quality and should last a very long time.

If they’re over your budget, try these.

Outfits 1 – 11

In this first group of plus size work outfits, I start with the black flare pants and top with a rust color sweater.

Add some on-trend jewelry like this chunky gold necklace and huggie earrings for a modern take.

Add your favorite black work tote and some designer sunglasses.

Or try these sunnies if you’re on a budget.

You can rock some black pointed toe flats or some trendy leopard print mary jane flats.

Both look great!

Or swap the chunky gold necklace for a square silk scarf.

Or try a floral cashmere scarf.

I love how you can mix and match all of these pieces!

Next, layer a black and white striped shirt under the sweater for a different effect.

Or you can just remove the sweater and rock the black and white striped shirt for a new combination.

Then top with a sweater blazer or cardigan.

I didn’t include an image with the black flats, but they would work with this combo as well.

Outfits 12 – 19

Sticking with the black flares, here are more ways to wear them…

Try topping with a cute black top with peplum-style bottom.

Obviously the trendy chunky gold necklace will look great with this combination.  

And either shoe will go well.

Top with the camel cardigan-blazer as needed.

Or try these combinations with the silk square scarf.

Outfits 20 – 25

And more plus size business casual outfits with these classic black flares.

These first two looks are with this on trend leopard blouse.

In my opinion, leopard is timeless and a neutral.

However, I do not like multiple animal prints together, so I am only using the black flats in these ensembles.

Top it with the camel sweater blazer as needed.  And keep the shoes black to elongate the leg.

To accentuate the open V-neck, I added a pearl pendant necklace and some pearl huggie hoop earrings.

You can also add this printed ruffle blouse with the same combinations.

It also has a V-neck that I emphasized with the pearl pendant necklace.

The leopard Mary Jane flats or black flats both work nicely.

Again, top with the neutral camel cardigan blazer as needed.

Because I am an anal-retentive perfectionist, I swapped the black tote for a brown suede tote with the leopard flats.

Is that necessary?  No.

But some of the looks in this capsule look better with a brown bag, so in this instance, why not?

FYI, You’ll see more of this beautiful brown suede tote bag in Part 2.

But, the black tote will also work fine here.

Work Totes

Outfits 26 – 34

Still working with our comfortable yet professional black ponte knit flares, we’re gonna add some more color.

Starting with this teal pussy-bow blouse, which has a relaxed fit and long puff sleeves.

I really like this ensemble with the leopard print flats to add interest, but the black flats work too.

As usual, top with the neutral cardi as needed. 

Personally, I only like the leopard flats here to tie in the camel color.

But, again, that’s me just being “extra.”

Or try this eggplant purple / magenta notch collar blouse.

It looks great and the color “pops” with the leopard flats (see complementary colors).

But, the black flats are great too and will elongate the leg.

Now top the magenta blouse with the cashmere floral scarf.  Beautiful!
