I wasn’t sure what to call this collection, maybe a “mini capsule wardrobe” but probably more of a “what to pack when traveling and doing some business” or “demonstrate how to recycle pieces in a spring wardrobe” collection. Regardless, it’s a nice mix of professional wear and casual clothes that can be mixed and matched to create may looks for whatever the occasion. And you likely have similar pieces already in your closet, just waiting to be integrated into a new outfit! You can find a gentle reminder on the importance of putting your clothes to work for you here.

This collection includes pale trousers (gasp!). Go here for my thoughts on wearing white jeans, which is pretty much the same as my thoughts on pastel pants. You can wear whatever you damn well please.
Plus Size Look 1
This outfit can easily be for day or night. I have a tendency to go to black or dark for night looks, but pastels work just as well. As I’ve mentioned before, I love the juxtaposition of a structured blazer and distressed jeans. This combo will keep you looking fashion-forward. Choose low wedges to give a little height but keep things comfortable.
Shop the look: Plus Size Tie Blazer // Earrings // Plus Size Strappy Cami // Clutch (less $ similar) // Watch // Plus Size Skinny Jeans // Heels (similar low wedges)
Plus Size Look 2
This is an easy work look that can transition nicely to a happy hour. The high neck of the top keeps things conservative, but the necklace gives it some fun, in a classy way 😉 . Add a blazer or cardigan for some arm-coverage if you need.
Shop the look: Necklace or here // Plus Size Peplum Top (less $ similar) // Heels (similar low wedges) // Watch // Earrings // Plus Size Trousers // Watch // Sunglasses // Tote Bag (less $ similar)
Plus Size Look 3
Pack your jeans and cute clutch in your work tote from the outfit above and swap them out on your way from the office to the bar. Black shoes are really an optional swap here, if you have some in your closet, throw them in the tote too!
Shop the look: Necklace or here // Plus Size Peplum Top (less $ similar) // Clutch (less $ similar) // Watch // Earrings // Plus Size Skinny Jeans // Heels (lower heel similar)
Plus Size Look 4
Blush and black & white is such an easy combination and you really can’t go wrong. Treat black & white prints, dots, and stripes as a “neutral,” and your clothes will be far more “recyclable” and your outfits will be much more interesting. So swap out that white button down for a polka dot version, which I used in another outfit recently; it is more versatile than you might think. And keep your button downs looking modern by adding jeweled statement necklaces.

Congratulations on your blog Alexa! I really enjoy it. One question: what kind of bra do you suggest underneath the strappy cami? A strapless bra?
Hi Karen,
Thank you! If you are as comfortable in a strapless bra as a standard bra, then feel free to go strapless- it is a more polished look.
I am not one of those people. No matter how far the strapless bra has come, I like more support whenever possible. If you are wearing a strappy or caged cami (the idea is emphasis on straps), then just wear a standard bra with the same or similar color straps. It is all a part of the look, so don’t worry about the straps. In fact, strappy bras are in right now, with extra straps meant to be seen. So it really isn’t a faux pas for casual wear.
And whatever you do, don’t wear those clear straps, ever. That’s a no no, in my opinion, but I know a lot of convertible bras still come with them. 🙂
Hope this helps!
Alexa
Thanks, Alexa! I am with you, I don’t feel comfortable with a strapless bra, but when I see this type of cami on models, as is the case with the ASOS site, I just wondered how the models pulled it off and looked so good.
And, thanks for your swift reply!
No problem. I think that model is actually going bra-less, which is totally unrealistic! A strapless bra would look as nice, but only if you’re comfortable in it. 🙂
Thanks Alexa! I really like the looks of the ASOS camis, but I think I’ll have to pass since I’m not too terribly keen on wearing a strapless bra.
Love all the outfits gives me great ideas to copy. Thanks
Dana- Glad to hear! 🙂
Hi Alexa. Just found your blog – it’s awesome. I tried to click on the link for the peplum top but it’s not working. Can you please tell me where it’s from. Thanks! Paula x
Hi Paula! Thank you! I tested the links- they work on my end 🙁 The top is from Lands End. Hope that helps! Alexa
