A plus size stylish and comfortable outfit for the fall! This is another look from my “on a budget” series. Before getting into the details, I want to prevent some anticipated feedback. So please keep these things in mind:
Plus Size on a Budget – My “Disclaimer”
- “Budget” is relative. Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses, while other people allocate $300 for their annual clothing budget.
- You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less. These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across. And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed. Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
- Recycle & reuse. As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks. Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pieces.

Plus Size on a Budget – Outfit Details
I love this outfit! It has that effortlessly put together vibe. Plus, most people have some basic leggings or ponte leggings. FYI, ponte leggings are thicker and more flattering for most people.
And these are my favorite ponte knit leggings, but if they are out of your budget, these look pretty similar. One more thing to note, ponte knit is much warmer than cotton leggings, so keep the season and temperature in mind.
So put on your favorite leggings with an oversized sweater. I really love the high-low hem of this sweater. And it offers some great rear coverage for wearing leggings. Yes!
Then take the outfit from boring to amazing with the right accessories. Starting with these snake embossed mules. They come in wide width, but I also found some similar ones in medium width. See even more options below!
I picked up some of the tones from the shoes with the bag and earrings. It might be a little too matchy-matchy, but I really love the whole look together. Any earthy or neutral bag will work, I was just drawn to the mustard for fall!

LOVE the plus size on a budget post! These prices are more in tune with the everyday clothes I need!
Thanks, Terry!
I love your website and your emails.
Could you do an entry on budget basics or foundational pieces fundamental to building a wardrobe? Best T-shirts, turtlenecks, tanks, jeans, leggings, plain tunics, etc.
It’s fun to have basic pieces and add more blingy blazers, shoes and jewelry that may be a little more expensive.
Keep up the great information!?
Thanks!
Hi Kira,
Thank you! As for your request, I tend to invest more in my basics so they will last longer. Then I try to save on trendier items that I might only want for a short period while they’re in style. But, I do think it would be good to do a basics post. So thank you!!!
