My next plus size winter work outfit idea for my “plus size on a budget series!” This is the second of two looks that will have you looking chic at the office all winter long! Go here for look one.
Also, make sure you check out this post for another plus size work outfit.
My “Disclaimer”
I want to prevent some anticipated feedback. So please keep these things in mind:
- “Budget” is relative. Some people easily spend $300 on sunglasses, while other people allocate $300 for their annual clothing budget.
- You may be able to find these items elsewhere for less. These are just some “budget-friendly” finds I have come across. And I typically don’t link to clearance items because they sell out and then people are disappointed. Also, I have no way of linking to thrift stores, but obviously, if you want to check out your local thrift stores, I think that is a great idea!
- Recycle & reuse. As with all of my posts, I hope that you can use the pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Additionally, I assume that you can reuse all of the pieces below in other combinations with things in your closet to create a variety of looks. Meaning, I think it is unfair to judge the expense of one outfit as though that is the only way to wear the pieces.
Outfit Details
Like in Part 1, this is a variation of one of my favorite “formulas” for workwear. Start with the same neutral base of a button-down and work trousers.
This time rather than adding some color with a cardigan, I chose a neutral, black. And then added two coordinating accessories, a headscarf and tote bag.
This scarf can be worn tied around the head like a headband, around a ponytail or bun, around the neck, the wrist, or even a handbag strap.
The rest of the accessories are also neutral. I added some interest with snakeskin print loafers. Then some basic jewelry like silver hoops and a set of silver link bracelets.

Really great bag and shoes! Love them!
Thanks!
Perfect!
Thank you!
Dear Alexa: I LOVE your ideas and wardrobe choices but unfortunately can never weigh the pants you choose for two reasons: 1) I am very short (5′ 1″) and thus need a very short rise and 2) my waist is much larger in proportion to my hips than in these choices. So I’m a waist 43″ and hips 51″. I really fit best into old-fashioned low-rise pants that actually came all the way up to my waist. Do you have any suggestions for women like me? Thanks! And again I ADORE your clothing suggestions.
Hi Marilyn,
That is a tall order! Lol. So I would suggest getting petite trousers, which unfortunately are going to be really hard to find “on a budget.” First, I have a list of places with petites here. Second, I think these pants might be worth a try.
Hi! Could you be more specific on the color combo you chose for the scarf? After clicking the link I find it confusing as to which one it is. Thank you!
Of the 4-pack with the colors “Royal Blue+black+orange+gray” I chose the royal blue one. I hope that helps.
Really appreciate the work outfits, especially on a budget. Thank You!
You’re welcome! I will have a spring work capsule coming on in the next month or so, so stay tuned!
