A plus size preppy summer capsule: one button-down shirt, four casual outfit ideas.
Okay, so this isn’t a full summer capsule, but much like my pink shorts post, coral shorts post, and linen shorts post, this is a “mini-capsule.”
Pro-tip: layer a white tank or cami under the button-down for more options. Wear the button-down open like a jacket, tied at the waist, or partially buttoned.
And roll up the sleeves in hot weather.
Top with a denim jacket on cold evenings.

The first look is the most fun, in my opinion. It mixes prints! Although it doesn’t precisely follow my print-mixing guidelines, I think this striped shirt and plaid shorts mesh well.

As with all of these looks, I chose some bougie accessories like the Louis Vuitton Neverfull and the iconic Gucci belt.
Gucci Belts
As I’ve said, I haven’t personally tried the Double G Gucci belts. Sadly, they aren’t large enough for me. However, they come as large as a size 20 (or 44″ waist)!
See the updated size chart below for choosing the correct size.
Both the thinner Double G Gucci belts and the wider Double G Gucci belts now come up to a size 120! The latter is probably a better choice for jeans depending on your personal preference.
So these belts are accessible to those with larger waists [and much larger wallets]! If they’re not in your budget, here is an alternative!
Plus Size Plaid Shorts
The second outfit from this plus size preppy summer capsule features green linen shorts. You might remember the green linen shorts from this post and this post.
Wearing Linen
These plus size shorts are a linen blend. As I’ve said, people often ask me how to keep their linen clothes from wrinkling.
For one, linen is always going to wrinkle. Always. And really, that is part of the look. You know, that rich bougie b!tch look that I love so much!
Two, a linen-blend will wrinkle less.
And three, if you iron with starch, linen will wrinkle a little less. But, I say, just let it go!
Plus Size Green Linen Shorts
The third outfit idea is the same as the others but with distressed denim Bermuda shorts. I like the distressing to keep things looking modern rather than too stuffy.

And lastly, this final plus size preppy summer outfit features another pair of linen shorts, this time in rust brown. You can read about wearing linen above.
My Favorite Lipsticks
I thought I should mention that I included my favorite lipsticks, which I readily admit are bougie AF and break the budget.
These Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-in-Stick Lipsticks are 65% oil and feel amazing on the lips! Not to mention they smell fantastic. And I just can’t say enough great things about them.
The closest lippies I have found at more reasonable prices are L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Shine Lipstick and Sephora’s Rouge Lacquer Lipsticks.
While both are similar, they aren’t even close to the decadence of the YSL ones.

Cute shorts, but I’d die wearing a long sleeve during our summers. 🙂 As always great accessories to match! Thanks
I was surprised by your choice of a long sleeved shirt for summer…
Cute suggestions. I live in Texas and understand the comments about the long sleeve shirt, but as Alexa said, you can roll the sleeves up. I often wear long sleeve button shirts in the summer and roll up the sleeves. If I wear the shirt unbuttoned with a tank top, I can always remove the shirt if I get too hot. If I am going to be indoors with AC, it is not a problem and sometimes you want something to keep the sun off your arms if you have to be outside, so it can work for the summer months. Otherwise, you could easily substitute a tank or tee for the long sleeve shirt, or look for a short sleeved button down. I think the mixing of the purple shirt with the various colored shorts it what drew me to the capsule collection. I will look for a purple colored shirt to go with the shorts I have already in similar colors.
