Life is Short, Wear Stripes

I often hear “Should plus size people wear stripes?”

If you’re unsure about stripes, please read this post “Are horizontal stripes REALLY making you look fat?,” written by Melissa at Suger Coat It. 

She explains, “No, horizontal stripes won’t make you look fat. Only being fat makes you look fat.  And you know what, that’s okay.”

I think Melissa does a fantastic job of breaking down this outdated “rule” regarding plus sizes and stripes. 

Casual Outfit Details

I don’t know what it is about a sweater vest, but I love them, especially with a crisp white collared shirt.

And of course, I love this sweater vest because it’s striped.  You know I love stripes!

Top this look with a black blazer as needed.

The first few outfits of this collection are more casual and feature wide-leg trouser jeans.

One thing to keep in mind with these modern cut jeans is their fabric content.  They’re 99% cotton with a tiny bit of stretch.

So they’re more structured.  Think of a more ’90s type of denim.

J.Crew Sizing

These denim trouser jeans are from J.Crew.  They also come in a “curvy” cut.

In case you haven’t heard, J.Crew now has many items in plus sizes up to a size 24 or 3X. 

Their sizing is comparable to Lane Bryant. 

One thing to note is that some of their pants and jeans come by waist sizing (vanity), so check the size chart below to see which size you are.

Shoe Options

As I show below, you can wear this look with some adorable cap-toed ballet flats.

Accessories

As for the handbag, I went with  black top handle satchel.

Add a skinny black belt if you please.

Jewelry

As for the jewelry, go with some basic gold pieces including these oval hoop earrings.

And went with my classic gold wrist stack.

I included this Tory Burch watch and bangle bracelet.

And I have the featured chain bracelet, it’s great and fits my slightly-larger-than-average wrists.

Try one of the Amazon bracelets for a selection of sizes at more reasonable prices.

And finish the jewelry with a gold dome ring.

Perfume

Now make sure you smell as chic as you look!

I included Chanel’s Gabrielle, which is such a “rich” floral fragrance.

If it’s over your budget, I highly recommend you try the Dossier version.

I own their “Floral Ylang Ylang,” which is inspired by Chanel’s Gabrielle.

I quickly used the entire bottle, which considering my vast perfume collection, is really saying something.

I then purchased the original Gabrielle and I have concluded there is no difference including the longevity.

Oh la la!  An amazing luxury scent at a fraction of the price!

Work Outfits Details

These last few outfits are just like the first except I made them office-appropriate by swapping the denim trouser jeans for some kick flare trousers,

Kick flares are cropped with a slight flare at the opening.  They’re flattering on those who are average height to tall.

If you want your legs to look longer, opt for a full length trouser.

Even longer, opt for an all black shoe, pointed toe.  With a heel?  Even better.
