I’ve had some requests to create some plus size professional looks for those with a professional dress code and job interviews. You can never go wrong with a quality pantsuit. It is one of the easiest ways to meet a dress code standard and look your best in the work environment. And the great thing about a pant suit (jacket, pants), aside from purchasing a matching skirt, is the ease with which you can change your shirt or blouse and accessories for different looks. Bonus: swap out the pants for a matching skirt to get the most wear out of it. The suit really is an efficient “uniform” for adulting.
What Makes a Good Suit?
For the following professional looks I chose a modern cut single-button jacket. The button is placed lower on the jacket, just under the bust, for a more flattering silhouette. This will accentuate the waist of pears and hourglasses and create the illusion of a waist on other shapes. The lightweight fabric has stretch and is all season. These are some key things to look for when suit shopping.
Although the jacket doesn’t come in petite, the pants come in three lengths. But keep in mind you may have to take your suit in for tailoring (remember, we’re adulting here). This is an investment piece and the effort will pay off. If you really need petite suiting, take a look at Talbot’s plus size petite suiting or custom-sizing professional wear from Sumissura.
Now if you’ve got a quality and perfect-fitting suit, you’re going to look like a million bucks with just a white button down and pumps. Below are some suggestions to mix it up to get the most wear out of your suit. Go here for more plus size work outfit ideas. And please subscribe to receive my new posts by email!

Hi Carol,
Did you see this “round up” of white dresses?
I love this! Thank you so much.
Thanks, Amy!
Nice stylish clothes with good cuts r in short supply for plus size clothing. So much is cut for the short & round. That never looks good, but always the majority. What looks beautiful, timeless & classic on thin people also looks good on plus size. Why o why can’t it b made by more company’s.
