Ok, now back to the clothes!
Wear the Stripes
This outfit includes a navy striped tee. As I mentioned in my last post with stripes, I am an unapologetic stripe-aholic.
But, I often get questions and concerns from readers about stripes making you look bigger or a “rule” about no stripes.
In my opinion, life is just too short to worry about wearing stripes and as Melissa at Suger Coat It demonstrates in her blog post “Are horizontal stripes REALLY making you look fat?,” they’re really not.
She does such a fantastic job of breaking down this outdated “rule.”
Madewell Jeans
These Madewell jeans, called “Cali Demi-Boot,” look like a kick flare jean but with a little less flare. They’re cropped at 26.5″ putting them well above the ankle.
And they’re available in petite and tall. Woot!
They’re made of “super stretch” denim, which I have heard is ultra-comfortable and super flattering.
And they’re also known for retaining their shape. Meaning, they aren’t going to stretch out throughout the day as you wear them.
The sizing is similar to that of J.Crew. See the size chart below to find your correct “vanity” waist size:

Lipstick
I thought I’d also mention the featured lipstick is my favorite.
As I’ve said, the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-in-Stick Lipsticks (or here) are my favorite lipsticks.
I readily admit they are bougie AF and totally break the budget. But they are amazing!
They’re 65% oil and feel amazing on the lips! Not to mention they smell fantastic.
Plus, the packaging is so gorgeous that I actually bought a lipstick holder, like this one, to display them.
And I just can’t say enough great things about them!
The closest lippies I have found at more reasonable prices are L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Shine Lipstick and Sephora’s Rouge Lacquer Lipsticks.
While both are similar, they aren’t even close to the decadence of the YSL ones.

Love the entire look!!!
I just love your style. Thank you.
I just bought a sweater just like this. Thanks for the tips.
Love the striped top and your comments about the outdated (or perhaps irrelevant!) “stripes make you look wider” assumption. Your sense of style continually inspires me! Thank for what you do for the plus-size community.
I enjoy your posts
love this! Please keep posting your wardrobe capsules! Its amazing seeing the different price points all on one post
I LOVE this outfit, I’m not a huge fan of non-skinny jeans but the wash on the kick flare ones is just so cute
Love this whole fit!! Jeans are a beautiful wash and pair so well with the tan jacket
I have a pair of the Cali demi-boot and they are very comfortable. They do stretch so if you are between sizes, size down. Super cute syling.
That sweater coat!! Great pulled together look….Can’t wait for fall time for work!
Thanks,
Trisha!
Fellow stripe lover here! I have a shorter but similar blazer and never thought to put it together with stripes! Love, love, love this idea. Thanks for all of your hard work and amazing blog. Congrats on 5 years! Cheers
I love your posts. You always give me great ideas and many a time I accomplish similar outfits to the ones you post.
I love the classic style and this outfit is so cute!
Back in my day, these jeans would be called “high-waters”. hehe
Very cute outfit! I love the jeans
Thank you for always sharing the links to the items and alternatives. You make shopping so easy!
This is such a cozy-chic look–I love it! Makes me super excited for the cooler weather!
Love this look! Would look great for travel or casual Fridays!
Thank you for all the work you do putting everything together.
Love this!
Hi Alexa!
I’m not a fan of ankle pants (or crops), they’re just not flattering on me. I prefer full length pants, which are surprisingly harder to find. I love the rest of the outfit, the bucket bag and the mules especially! Classy way to dress up a casual striped tee and jeans, definitely copying this fall!
I enjoy your post! I’m not sure what else to say I normally don’t comment on anything lol. Thanks for all your hard work on the blog!
Already own this outfit — thanks to you! 🙂
I love that striped shirt! I have it is several colors/variations. I’ve never met a stripe I didn’t like! LOL!
