As I said, when coming up with this year’s plus size Thanksgiving outfit ideas, I took into account your responses to my poll on Instagram and comments from a recent post asking about how casual you plan to be for Thanksgiving.
Overwhelmingly, you said you planned to be pretty casual and comfortable. More so, I keep hearing: “I need stretchy pants.” Haha. So, the first two plus size Thanksgiving outfits for colder climates feature ponte knit leggings.
You request it, I try to deliver!
Holiday Suggestions
Speaking of requests, I am working on putting together a “Holiday Guide” for the blog and would love some input!
As you may have noticed, I added a new “Holiday” tab in the blog’s menu. What I envision here is a resource including outfit ideas for holiday dinners and functions, party dresses, Black Friday & Cyber Week sale information, and maybe, time permitting, some gift guides.
Please leave any suggestions in the comments below of posts or information that you find helpful this time of year!
Thanks in advance!

Plus Size Thanksgiving Outfits
This first plus size Thanksgiving outfit is totally classic. A tunic sweater, a plaid blanket scarf in fall colors, with leggings and a riding boot.
These pieces will never go out of style!
In my opinion, blanket scarves will be less of an “it” accessory over time, but they will never be a fashion faux-pas. Same with riding boots!
Ponte Leggings
Here I featured my favorite ponte knit leggings, the Eloquii Miracle Leggings. Pretty much everyone who has tried them has told me they love them! They don’t “bag out” and stay up all day. No yanking on the waistband!
Plus, they are completely opaque, so even if you’re top is not tunic length, you’re not “exposing” yourself.
They also have seaming down the front, which is a nice touch.
And they come in sizes 14 – 32. I highly recommend them!
Just so we’re on the same page, ponte knit is much thicker than jersey knit. It is a much more flattering and forgiving fabric.
It is also more appropriate for colder temperatures.
Personally, I get too hot in ponte knit in the summer. But, I love it in fall and winter!
Tunic Sweaters & Tops
I have had several requests for help finding tunic length sweaters this year and I understand why.
There just aren’t that many on the market, especially in neutral colors, like the cream in this look. So I wanted to “round up” some similar plus size tunic sweaters and tops in this color.
Here are some plus size tunic sweaters and tops that would also work with this outfit.

This second plus size Thanksgiving outfit idea is another classic, in my opinion.
A luxurious cashmere poncho over a striped t-shirt or turtleneck with leggings and a riding boot.
Pictured is a navy and white striped tee, but a black and white stripe works just as well. As I mentioned, I also like it with a striped turtleneck.
Hopefully, you have one of these in your closet already. But, if not, be sure to see a selection of alternatives for both the tees and poncho in the “Shop the Look” section below.
Riding Boots
I just adore these wide calf Lucky Brand riding boots, but they will only fit up to 15.4″ calf.
If you’re unsure about your calf size or how to measure, go to this post.
As I’ve said, I love Duo Boots for their high quality, genuine leather, “custom” sizing, and availability of calf widths up to 20″ circumference! They have some similar boots here. I’m not an affiliate, I just really believe in their boots!
You can read more of my thoughts on them here. I also listed some other options below in the “Shop the Look” section, including extended wide calf options and some inexpensive options.

It would be nice if your could recommend petite ponte leggings. The 2 pair you feature are too long for me. Do they even exist?
It would also be nice if you could put together some casual petite pants outfits.
Hi Dorothy,
Yes, they do exist! I recommend these from Torrid or these from Talbots. Both are available in shorter inseams!
Yes!!
Great outfit! Very excited for the holiday guide.
Since you are taking suggestions, I’d love to see a post with multiple looks for a basic black cocktail dress. I have a few holiday events and don’t want to buy multiple dresses, but would like to look like I’m not wearing the same outfit all December when the pictures show up on Facebook!
Hi Kay,
Great suggestion! I understand the dress-recycling issues now thanks to FB. Let me see what I can do! I’m not sure if you saw this post, but it might be helpful: https://www.alexawebb.com/plus-size-lbd-1117/
Love these outfits!! I have the Eloquii leggings and love them!! I think the Holiday Gift Guide sounds perfect!! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks, Diane!!! <3
I want those boots.
I love, love leggings and sweaters or tunics! Torrid has great leggings. Very soft and cozy. I’m loving your posts. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Aileen! 🙂
