This is the fourth and final post in a series of posts featuring a plus size work capsule wardrobe. I put together a collection of work clothes from City Chic that you can mix and match to create a lot of outfits. Looking good at work has never been so easy! You might want to start with Plus Size Work Capsule Wardrobe – Part I, Part II, and Part III.

The outfits in this last post are more conservative and classic than the last couple of posts in this series. Although there are no bright colors or prints in these outfits, they are far from boring! These work outfits are full of feminine details like the delicate pleating, sheer layers, and lace in the star of this post: the plus size lace top. I paired it with a different “third layer,” jacket or cardigan, with some key accessories, like a scarf or necklace, to create different outfits.
City Chic offers quality and stylish plus size clothing in sizes 14 – 24. They’re an international brand that is carried by major department stores in the US and worldwide. So if you haven’t heard all about them, you should certainly get to know them. They offer free shipping and free returns for all US customers! Woot! And, they are offering my readers a discount code! Use code ALEXAWEBB30 for 30% off any regularly priced items, one use per customer. Also, their clothes are true to size, but as always, I recommend checking their size chart before ordering.
Plus Size Work Capsule Wardrobe – Part IV
In this first look, I paired the plus size lace top with a classic trench and scarf. Like I said in the first post of this series, you can wear a scarf in many ways, including tied around the neck, loosely over the shoulders, over the head, tied as a headband, tied to a handbag, and more. Although I think every woman should own a bougie silk scarf, it is not in everyone’s budget. So, I included some great alternatives that are “silk like” or on sale below.
So for this outfit, you can wear the scarf as an “outdoor” accessory with the trench to protect you and keep you warm during cool morning commutes or May showers. Or you can wear it around your neck on top of the lace top all day long. I also added a necklace, thinking of the scarf being worn as the former. Either way, you can’t go wrong!
And lastly, for this look any of the shoes from this capsule collection would work. Consider adding the red pumps featured in Part I for a pop of color. And really, because these outfits are so conservative, throw those red shoes on with any of the looks in this post. I love a surprising shoe color, don’t you?

Where are skirts??? And I hate “plus” ,,, that word should be erased..we are are “women” . It should be misses, then Women sizes
I don’t wear pants. I wear skirts. I guess I’m I the minority.
Hi Linda,
I think a black pencil skirt would go great with all of these looks instead of the pants.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping us build really great work wardrobes — I appreciate the care you put into help us all look and feel our best! I love your outfits and shop your Pinterest pages instead of shopping in stores!
Thanks so much, Courtney! 🙂
Hi Alexa
Would it be too much to ask for Summer work capsule? I’m completely lost and need new work pieces. Thanks!!
Hi Nancy,
Let me see what I can do! Are you looking for business casual or professional attire?
Oh please Alexa! A summer work capsule! Business casual Fridays and professional Monday through Thursday here.
Thanks for the input, Karenina. Stay tuned… 🙂
Thank you, Alexa! You’ve captured what professional plus dressing can be, and I’m thrilled! What a terrific, polished look for work and professional travel — modern, affordable, classic, comfortable. I love that you provide options for price points and shoe heights. You absolutely rocked this! Happily, I prefer almost all of the items you’ve chosen. With a larger chest, I’m not a fan of the pearl embellished sweater (too fussy and cropped for me, but I do have a cream soft structure jacket that would easily replace it.) I don’t prefer the rose/coral color top options, but your examples are so clear with length and proportions, that it’s easy to swap out the color scheme and still have a great capsule. In a moment of synchronicity, I was actually ordering an item on City Chic and didn’t want to buy things I didn’t need, so started googling capsules, and found your site. I changed my coupon code to yours, so you’ll benefit from my order – yay! I’m ordering the pencil stripe dress and black slim pants. I’m also going to order a few statement jewelry pieces and will use your links. Gratitude abounds. Your capsule combinations use current fashion in a grown up way, that looks inviting and unfussy, and I can incorporate several items in my closet that have been ignored.
Personal opinion on wearing nylons with dresses: In viewing photos of plus women in dresses on line, unless the knees and legs appear toned, or the dress/crop pant is below the knee, bare legs look aging, distracting, and less polished, even with self-tanners. For a professional look, I won’t wear a dress or skirt at or above the knee without hose or tights.
I just snagged the pinstripe dress for $22 and it is gorgeous. The picture doesn’t do it justice. I am planning on wearing it to a big work presentation in January.
